LIGHTMATTER
LIGHTMATTER - BRINGING LIGHT TO DEEP TECH ANIMATION
When you get the chance to work with a company that is quite literally redefining the future of computing by using light instead of electricity, you jump at it. Lightmatter is doing some mind-bending work in the photonics and AI hardware space, and we were absolutely stoked to partner with them to help shape their visual storytelling.
We got to flex a lot of different creative muscles on this one, running the gamut from high-end 3D motion graphics and kinetic logo animations to jumping on set for live-action production.
The Challenge: Animating the Invisible
Let's be honest—photonic computing isn't exactly the easiest thing to explain at a dinner party, let alone visualize on screen. Our primary goal with the 3D motion graphics was to peel back the layers of incredibly complex hardware and show how light moves through their systems without losing visual clarity.
We fast-forwarded through a lot of heavy technical data to focus on what matters: texture, speed, and form. We spent a ton of time in R&D playing with glass materials, refractions, and light paths to create a look that felt completely distinct to their brand. To anchor everything, we designed clean, punchy logo animations that give their visual identity an immediate sense of energy the second it hits the screen.
Switching Gears: Going Live-Action
While our CG team was busy rendering complex light paths, our production crew hit the ground running with live-action shoots. It’s easy for deep-tech companies to feel completely abstract, so bringing a human element to the screen was crucial. Capturing the real faces, focus, and environment of the folks building this tech provided a perfect, grounded counterweight to our high-end digital animations.
Big thanks to the Lightmatter team for trusting us with their vision and letting us help bring their revolutionary tech into the light. Check out a snippet of our public-facing work below!
